回遊の果て

作品の多くは海洋生物や魚の木彫作品。多種多様な⿂類、海洋⽣物が一団となって回遊してい
る。多くは⾷卓に上がる馴染みのある魚や珠洲で
水揚げされる魚で、海流をイメージした複数の⽅
向性、進⾏性を構成している。鑑賞者は会場とな
る民家の座敷を取り巻く縁側と廊下を一周するよ
うに周りながら、彫刻や音響空間を体感する。珠
洲には、蛸にまつわる民話が多く伝承されている
が、会場の中心となる座敷には、この家の主であ
るかのような大蛸が鎮座している。
Most of these works are wood carvings of fish and marine animals. These diverse creatures of the sea are migrating together in a group. Many of the fishes are familiar, appearing on dinner tables or as catches in Suzu. Their various directions and progressions of movement are arranged in the image of ocean currents. Suzu is a region where folk tales about octopi, the origin of the name Takojima (literally, “Octopus Island”), have been passed down for generations. At the center of the installation is a giant octopus reminiscent of the master of the house. This work depicts creatures who traveled around the world and have reached their “final destination.”
Ohji Yoshino（Japan）
1964年鹿児島生まれ。京都精華大学卒業、彫刻家。現在京都精華大学教授。木彫を中心としたインスタレーションを数多く発表。2009年、大地の芸術祭を契機に近年の作品は、自己のアイデンティティーとサイトスペシフィック（場所性）を重視した作品を展開している。土地由来の農業、漁業などの営みが自然環境、風土に深く根ざし、欠くことのできない関係性を示していると同時に、再生可能な自然循環の中で、人もまた自然の一部として生かされていることを提唱、家畜や魚などの動物をモチーフとした寓話的な作品を発表している。

Born in Kagoshima in 1964. Graduated from Kyoto Seika University and now active as a carver. Currently a professor at Kyoto Seika University. Presented many installations centered on wood carving. With the 2009 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale as an impetus, his recent works express his own identity and emphasize site-specificity. The activities of land-based agriculture, fishing, etc. are deeply rooted in the natural environment and climate with an inescapable relationship, and at the same time they are renewable. He advocates that humans are also part of nature and the natural cycle, and presents allegorical works with animal motifs such as livestock and fish.
