幻想考“The Butterfly Dreams”

奥能登に伝承する「あえのこと」になぞらえ、家の主人に導かれるように
作家と家族の意識を辿る前回のインス
タレーション《幻想考》をさらに発展させる。屋根裏に意識のうえで会場を俯瞰するような新たな空間を設え、来訪者を「存在していると思っていたものすべてが幻想であるのなら、何を道標にこの世界をとらえればよいのか」
という思考へと誘っていく。
Expanding on his work “the Butterfly Dream,” exhibited twice previously, Sawa creates illusions of “now” and “the future,” going beyond perspectives of earlier shows that cast backwards from the present to the past. The work reveals an otherworldly realm that unfolds from a hut offering an opportunity to reclaim the physical as a marker of certainty in this world. It asks, “What can guide us to certainty in this world, where all the existence we perceive and all the concepts believed to be correct are illusions?”

石川県生まれ。
高校卒業後に渡英、現在はロンドンと金沢を拠点に制作をつづけている。 ロンドンの大学、大学院で彫刻を学ぶなかで、友人の手伝いでコンピュータのアニメーションソフトを使ったことがきっかけとなり映像作品を作り始める。撮りためたイメージを、映像がもつ時間軸の中でコラージュすることで自身の心象風景や記憶の中にある感覚といった実態のない個人的な領域を表現するインスタレーションを展開。 映像や立体造形物を巧みに操り再構成することで、現実にはありえない光景を描きながら、どこか親しみを感じさせる世界を作品の中に生み出し、見る人の想像力に働きかける。 近年は映像の配置を絵画的・彫刻的に捉えた空間構成や、立体や平面作品を併置させるなど、映像と展示空間とが互いの領域を交差するような作品に取り組み、世界各地で発表している

Born in Ishikawa. Completed MFA in sculpture at Slade School of Fine Art in London in 2003. Currently lives in London and Kanazawa. Sawa expresses intangible domains such as imaginary landscape or certain senses exist in memories by video installations consist of moving image, three-dimensional and two-dimensional artworks. By manipulating moving images and three-dimensional structures, Sawa realises implausible and yet familiar scene in a given exhibition space which appeal to audience’s imagination. His recent artworks attempt to intersect moving images and exhibition space each other by constructing space through sculptural arrangements of moving images or laying three-dimensional and two dimensional artworks side by side.
