のと鉄道能登線の旧正院駅の線路脇に埋められた巨大な植木鉢。不要と
なった焼酎貯蔵用の巨大なタンクをリ
サイクルし、作家がペイントを施した
もので、秋に紅葉する植物が植えられ
ている。春には桜が美しいことで知ら
れるこの場所に、作家は珠洲の新たな
庭を作り出すことを構想し、花見の季
節以外にも人々が集えるような空間を
手掛けた。
Huge flowerpots are situated on the former rail track site of Noto Railway’s Shoin Station. The plants were selected for their colors in autumn. This work is an attempt to make this area, which has beautiful cherry blossoms in spring, a popular spot for viewing autumn leaves in autumn. The pots are made from giant recycled tanks that were no longer needed at a local shochu distillery. The artist has drawn images related to Suzu on the sides of the pots.

物語性と社会風刺に満ちた世界観を、力強くキャンバスに表現する油絵画家。独特のユーモアと想像力で、サンパウロ、東京、ニューヨークと居を移しながら制作を続けている。サンパウロに生まれ、建築学科を卒業した作家は、東京の建築事務所で働きながらアーティストとしても活動。奨学金を得てニューヨークに移り住み、現在も米国を拠点としている。大岩はよく旅をし、移動しながら複数の文化に根差した自らのアイデンティティを模索しているように思われる。緻密なタッチや鳥瞰図的な構図を使い、新聞記事やネットの中に社会問題の糸口を見出し、入念なリサーチをもとに大画面をしあげる彼の作風のファンは多く、国内外の多くの美術館で作品が収蔵されている。

Works of Oiwa, as though veiled over the surface, attract the viewers' perspective into the depth of the plane. His interest in social matters, caught at first in newspapers and articles on internet, will be visualized through elaborative research and drawing process. The finished image, sometimes grandiose and apocalyptic, depicts the life and society with his characteristic sense of humor. Born in Sao Paulo, he graduated from Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at Sao Paulo University. While working in an architectural studio in Japan where his parents are issued from, he exhibited gradually in artistic events to become an artist. Awarded the grant from Asian Cultural Council and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, he moved to New York in 2002 where he lives since then. Recently he exhibited in Brazil, USA , France, Belgium , Korea and Japan.
